Artist Newsletter _ La Prima Volta
This is my first artist newsletter (la prima volta). Some of you know me personally, some others have heard of me through A Collective Journal, a beautiful project that has been, for now at least, paused. Over the past year, since my last entry to my photo journal, I have been focusing more on my photography work: I’ve completed a year-long masters in photography here in Lisbon, and finished my first big photography project… more about what I’ve been up to in this email.

Group exhibition at f/est [May to July]
A couple of months ago I had the pleasure to show my work Perché ti ricordi sempre, at the photography festival f/est Amarante, within a group exhibition entitled Remapear as margens. I learnt a lot from this experience: working with the curator Vitor Nieves, (and perfecting my nail and hammer skills), presenting my work in front of an audience (in Portuguese), and being part of a show with amazing photographers.
Perché ti ricordi sempre photo book [coming soon]
Perché ti ricordi sempre might one day be a book. I presented the dummy at the end of my masters and I am currently working on turning it into a limited edition artist book. I am certainly learning a lot, moving one step at a time and looking to make this a collaboration. If you are interested in learning more don’t hesitate to get in touch. Read more about this project here. This dummy exists for now as a unique copy, the inside was printed on paper Munken 130gr., hand-binded (coptic binding), the hardcover was also hand made. The fabric comes from my grandmother’s wardrobe, where it waited a long time to be turned into something.
Limited edition zine [a few copies available]
Back in November 2021 I self published my first zine. A few copies are still available! This was a project I worked on for a group exhibition in 2020. At that time I was learning how to develop and enlarge black & white film with Magda from Imagerie. The zine was launched in November. More on this project, the zine and the exhibition on my website.
A gloria da manha [short story for Flores de rua]
My dear friend and talented artist Andrea asked me and other 10 artists, writers, and people who use language in a meaningful way, to write a piece in response to her latest work Flores de Rua. On July’s full moon she launched a book and printed artworks at Open Hearts. My contribution to the book is a short story, written in English and translated into Portuguese, Gloria da manha. This city, her streets and flower petals, in the same way as the incredible women I met here, have meant so much for my personal growth as a human being and artist, and this story seems like an appropriate metaphor for all this. Listen to the 20-minutes interview and find out more about the project, the book, and the artist from her own lovely voice (andreahuberart.com).
Podcast contribution [The Artist Reality podcast]
As part of her holistic approach to art and life, Andrea, and her partner in this project, Federica Elena, have launched a podcast The Artist Reality: “A series of honest and real monthly podcasts where we will take you on a journey into the lives of artists, the challenges they face, and their hopes and dreams.” I will participate in the next episode of the podcast. We will record next week so stay tuned for more info!
